23-year-old Thompson started off his Irish League career with Cliftonville before moving to Larne where he spent two campaigns before joining Portadown where he played his football last season.
Thompson had signed for Ards at the start of the new season, making two appearances before arriving at the Loughshore Hotel Arena where he will provide competition for the left wing-back position.
On Thompson’s arrival, Niall Currie said,
“The opportunity to sign Jerry has come right out of the blue, late in the day. He is on his way back from a groin injury, but there is not a better free transfer that we will ever get. He is hungry and wants to prove a few people wrong. He has quality and we will give him the opportunity to rebuild his career. He is a young lad who fits into what we are continually building here with our club’s future in mind.”
Welcome to Carrick Rangers, Jerry! #AmberArmy
