Carrick were back in league action after the recent weather played havoc with games being on off . The game was played at the Valley and the pitch was in great condition apart from a few soft patches in the middle.
The last game between the two sides was a tight match with Carrick winning it 4-3. Carrick got off to a great start taking the lead in the 4th minute when Ben Johnston was played through but his shot hit the keeper and came back out to Jack Connor who fired in from the edge of the box 1-0.
Carrick were all over their opposition and Ben was finding loads of space in behind their back 4. 10 minutes in and Ben got his goal when again, Ross McGimpsey picked the ball up in his own half, turned and spotted Ben's run, Ross played a superb pass through which took out the entire midfield and defence and was perfectly weighted for Ben to run onto, Ben calm as alwaervineys saw the keeper come out and he floated the ball over him and into the net great finish but what a pass and vision from Ross 2-0.
Carrick were rampant but Eddie Ervine had a few chances when they counter attacked 3 great crosses played into Carrick's box which Adam Donald in Carrick's goal was called upon to deal with .
14 minutes gone and Jack Connor scored his 2nd and Carricks 3rd when Matty Long cut into the box after another mazy run he had time to pick out Jack who had loads of time to control the ball and poke it home with his left foot 3-0.
Carrick continued to dominate and as the first half was coming to an end, Carrick had started to deal with Eddie Irvine counter attacks. Carrick won a corner and with just enough time to take it Ross whipped in a great cross that Jack Connor just missed with his head but the defender marking Jack did get his head to it only to put the ball in his own net 4-0 at half time.
Carrick made 2 changes at half time, Daniel Crothers replaced Jack Connor who was struggling with a cold and Matthew Graham came on for Ryan Stewart who was carrying a knee injury.
Eddie Irvine went straight on the attack up their right but it was stopped by Matthew Graham and cleared. Carrick looked comfortable, then Matthew Long who was having a great game was starting to struggle with his hip but before Carrick could replace him Matthew was played through he weaved past the last defender, took it around the keeper and scored, 5-0 great goal and great way to sign out for the day.
Josh Boyd replaced Matthew Long and Nicky Rodgers came on for Dylan McDonald who had to come off with a nose bleed.
12 minutes in and Eddie Irvine score a cracker from 25 yards when Carrick failed to clear 5-1. Nicky could have restored Carricks 5 goal advantage minutes later when Daniel Crothers found him with a low cross but Nicky's effort went just wide.
17 minutes gone Nicky was involved again he was played the ball by Josh on the left, Nicky passed to Max Riley who his his shot 1st time only to put it wide of the far post. Carrick were again dominating and Max in Carrick's midfield was putting in a great performance holding in the centre giving Carrick great shape.
Daniel Crothers was also making a big impact on Carricks right wing and was unlucky not to score what would have been a very special goal, Daniel won the ball on the halfway line and started his run down the right he nutmegged the first challenger, cut inside and skinned the 2nd challenger, passed in field to Max who sent the pass through for Daniel to run onto and into the box Daniels fierce shot was superbly tipped over by the keeper .
24 minutes gone Carrick get their 6th goal when again great work on the right from Daniel, plays a 1-2 with Ben skips past a challenge and fires in another great cross this time its met by Nicky Rodgers who somehow volleys in the cross with his knee into the top corner .
Carrick saw out the last few minutes to win the game 6-1 .
Man of the Match again was a tough decision with Mark Hunter playing well in midfield and defence, Jack Connor scoring 2 and Daniel having a blinder of a 2nd half but Max Riley was awarded it for his 60 minutes at centre midfield holding well and linking play. Well done Max and well done to all the boys fantastic team performance yet again.
