U13's Hit 9 Past Dunmurry
Carrick Rangers U13's sponsored by KIRBY played Dunmurry in the South Belfast youth league on Saturday 15th March 2014.

Carrick were looking to bounce back after last weeks defeat to Hillsborough and were going to have to do it without their regular right back Jack Foster who got a bad face injury last week during the Hillsborough game.

Carrick had to reshuffle and with only 2 subs available, Carrick were glad Bradley Beck returned.

Carrick started the game well but 8 minutes in Mark Hunter had to be replaced by Nicky Rodgers, Mark came off after taking a knock to his knee.

11 minutes in and Carrick strike first after Daniel Crothers showed great strength on the ball he passed into Jack Connor who struck well from outside the box, 1-0.

Carrick continued to have the better chances in the first half but Carrick were over playing and looking to hit long passes.

23 minutes in and Max Riley sees his header go over the bar from a quick short corner between Ross and Matty Long.

28 minutes in and Carrick double their lead; Ben Johnston's shot was saved but the ball fell to Nicky Rodgers who calmly slotted the ball home, 2-0.

Just before the break Carrick had their best spell of the half when Ross McGimpsey, playing at right back, played a nice 1-2 with Daniel, Ross into Max who fed Jack Connor, Daniel had continued his run up the right wing and Jack played it out to Daniel, Daniel beat his man and fired a great cross to the edge of the box where Jack Connor had made his run, Jack controlled and hit a fierce shot that beat the keeper but came back off the post. This was great pass and move football, simple short passes that opened Dunmurry up. HT 2-0.

Carrick came out the 2nd half and simply destroyed their opponents. Matty Long had 2 chances to score in the first 3 minutes; the 1st was saved, 2nd hit the bar. Dunmurry started to get riled and soon the tackles were flying in, the Ref had a job to do now.

Ryan Stewart was 1st to suffer when he was tackled from behind and ended up coming off, the player rightly booked. Minutes later the same player went in on another reckless tackle and was lucky not to be shown red and was immediately subbed.

10 minutes in and Matty Long made a great solo run up the left, rounded the keeper and slotted in 3-0.

12 minutes gone and Matty Long was in again he was torturing Dunmurry up the left, this time he beat 3 players before curling his shot past the keeper it went in via a defenders head but it was going in anyway 4-0.

4 minutes later Nicky went in to challenge for a high ball just inside the box only to be taken out by the keeper, a penalty kick was awarded and the keeper lucky not to be booked. Bradley Beck replaced the injured Nicky. Ben Johnston tucked the penalty away with ease 5-0.

4 minutes later the keeper did get booked, this time Bradley Beck was running in towards goal, the keeper came flying out of his box, Bradley knocked the ball past him to Ben, the keeper took Bradley out, the Ref played advantage and Ben scored his 2nd, keeper got booked, 6-0.

Carrick continued to play their passing football even though they were getting hit with stupid tackles. Ross took a free kick and lobbed the ball forward to Ben, Ben controlled and saw the keeper off his line and lobbed him to score his 3rd and Carricks 7th.

Ross had the ball a minute later and calmly played it across the back 4, Matty Long now at left back found Bradley Beck on the wing, Bradley went up a gear and drove past 2 challenges into the box and curled his shot past the keeper and into the far corner 8-0.

Carrick hadn't finished, in the last minute Matty Long overlapped Bradley who slid the ball to him, Matty cut into the box and the defender came sliding in again reckless, Matty jumped the challenge but landed on the ball and fell. The Ref pointed to the spot, penalty kick was awarded. Dylan McDonald who has been superb all season at centre back and hasn't scored was told he could take it. Matty Long who won the penalty and was on a hat trick sportingly handed Dylan the Ball and gave him a high five, this was great to see great team spirit. Dyaln stepped up and smashed the penalty past the keeper into the far right hand corner great penalty struck like a forward.

Carrick finished the game well deserved winners, 9-0 and a clean sheet considering the changes to the back 4 Adam Donald had little to do in Carrick's goal.

Man Of the Match went to the whole team 13 players that were involved and also Jack Foster who came down to support his team mates. Carricks next match is against Shankill Juniors.
