Carrick Rangers 1-2 Warrenpoint Town
Carrick Rangers’ suffered a 2-1 loss to 10th placed side Warrenpoint Town on Saturday afternoon in a disappointing display.

Conor McMenamin went close for the visitors early on, however the forward shot wide from range.

Moments later, ‘Point took the lead. Harry Doherty failed to hold Sean Mackle’s free-kick, and McMenamin was the first to react as his effort deflected off Paddy McNally and nestled in the net.

Ten minutes later, the County Down side doubled their advantage. McMenamin turned provider as his cross came to ex-Carrick man Seanna Foster who drilled into the bottom corner.

On the half hour mark, Rangers pulled a goal back. Jonathan Smith delivered a cross to the back post where McNally rose highest to nod into the net, ensuring the ‘Gers had got themselves back into the game at the break.

At the start of the second half, Chris Morrow replaced Mark Surgenor in the centre of midfield.

With an hour played, Eamon Scannell’s cross from the left flank was cleared only as far as Smith on the edge of the area, however the striker fired high over the bar on the volley.

At the other end, Lorcan Forde’s close-range shot was deflected just past the upright by Carrick defender Mark Edgar.

Andrew Mooney then replaced Darren Henderson as the hosts strived to find an equaliser, before Brendan Glackin came on for Scannell.

David McAlinden’s side had a golden chance towards the end of the game as Morrow’s cross from the right side was flicked back across goal by Mooney, but McNally was unable to find his second as he headed wide.

Forde nearly added a third for Warrenpoint in added time, however Doherty made a smart save to deny the attacker’s low shot, as it ended with Matthew Tipton’s men taking all three points.

Carrick Rangers: Doherty; Smyth, McNally, McNulty, Edgar; Chapman, Surgenor (Morrow, 45), Kottoy, Scannell (Glackin, 72); J. Smith, Henderson (Mooney, 69).

Unused substitutes: Larmour, Hassin.
