Lougran and Patterson join as Smith re-signs
Carrick Rangers are delighted to announce that defender Caolan Loughran will join the Club on a season long loan from Ballymena United, with midfielder Wesley Patterson joining from Linfield and Michael Smith re-signing for the forthcoming campaign.

Loughran, son of former boxer Eamonn Loughran, rose through the youth ranks at his hometown club of Ballymena United and made a couple of first team appearances before traveling to the United States where he undertook a soccer scholarship at Regis University in Denver, Colorado.

Upon his return to Northern Ireland, the 23-year-old again linked up with the Sky Blues at the start of the 2016/17 season as he made 20 league appearances, scoring two goals, and was loaned out to Larne for the second half of last season where he featured 9 times, scoring once.

On strengthening his defensive options, Niall Currie said, “Firstly, I would like to place on record my thanks to David Jeffrey for allowing Caolan to come on loan to us as we’re absolutely delighted to get someone of his ability on board. He will be a great addition as he’s a Premiership level player with a great hunger to do well so he will be a good fit for us.”

Left-midfielder Patterson signs having most recently been with Linfield Swifts, helping them to win the Premiership Development League.

Having captured the youngster’s signing, Niall Currie said, “Wesley is a young, exciting talent and having came through the youth ranks, he now needs to get experience in senior football. He’ll come here and get an opportunity to prove himself and it’s up to him to take that opportunity - he brings pace and energy to our side and we have high hopes that he’ll do well.”

Staying on for another year is Smith who came to Taylors Avenue from Larne last summer and made 29 appearances, scoring 5 times.

Pleased to re-acquire Smith’s services, Niall Currie said, “Michael will bring good experience and versatility to our side and it was a no-brainer for us to sign him up for another season. There were a number of other sides interested in signing Michael so we’re glad he’s stuck with us and I have no doubt that he could be a great player for us in the forthcoming season.”

Welcome to the Club, lads! #AmberArmy
