Last Saturday, Niall Currie’s side travelled to Knockbreda and, thanks to a brace from forward Michael Smith, picked up their first three points in the Bluefin Sport Championship.
Then on Tuesday evening, an impressive second half performance saw the ‘Gers advance to the next round of the Bet McLean League Cup in a 6-0 win against Sport & Leisure Swifts, with a hat-trick for Stewart Nixon, a brace for Daniel Kelly and another goal from Michael Smith.
Rangers’ opponents this evening are managed by former striker Sean Friars, with ex-centre half Stuart McMullan also currently at the Roesiders.
United have yet to pick up their first win of the season, starting the season with defeats to Ballinamallard United and Knockbreda, but have saw more promising results recently, drawing 1-1 with Ballyclare Comrades and then taking their Bet McLean League Cup tie with Dungannon Swifts to extra-time, eventually narrowly losing 2-1.
This will be the first meeting between the sides since 22nd February 2014, when a nine-man Carrick Rangers side came away 1-0 winners at Inver Park thanks to a Ciaran Donaghy header.
As for the last meeting at the Showgrounds, the ‘Gers won in style with a 5-0 win thanks to a double from Richard Gibson, and goals from Anthony Lagan, Jody Lynch and Aidan O’Kane.
The last five games between these two clubs have produced an average of 3 goals per game, so it’s sure to be an entertaining contest this evening!
Boss Niall Currie will have a fully fit and available squad to choose from with the exceptions of new signings Lloyd Anderson and Lee Chapman, who will have to wait until next week to make their first appearances of the season.
Tonight’s match will be refereed by Christopher Morrison, with Jamie Carnduff and Michael Anderson the assistant referees.
As always, the Spirit of ’76 SC are running a bus to this evening’s match which will depart from the Loughshore Hotel Arena at 5:45PM, costing £5 for members and £8 for non-members.
Tonight’s game will get underway at 7:45PM at a floodlit Limavady Showgrounds, so make sure you make the journey and give the lads your backing right from the start! #AmberArmy
