Having joined the First Team Coaching Staff in May 2018, Clifford will now also oversee the thriving Youth Academy which has produced current first team talents such as Ashton McDermott and Danny Magill, with the Club again actively seeking to improve its player pathway so that more young, local players can become future first team stars.
McDermott is a former ‘Gers player and father of current midfielder and Academy product Ashton McDermott, as well as being a Director on the Board. As Director of Football Development, Kel will use his knowledge as a former Academy coach to help Clifford in interlinking the work of the Academy with that of the First Team and therefore further strengthen the existing player pathway.
A delighted Clifford Adams said:
“I would like to start by thanking Carrick Rangers FC and its Academy for offering me the opportunity to become Head of Youth Development alongside my coaching duties with the first team. Kel McDermott and I, assisted by John McAllister, will be doing everything we can to create the best Academy set-up possible, with the long term aim of giving the Club a steady flow of talent coming through.”
“Nothing gives a Club and its fans more pride than seeing some home-grown talent within their squad. I look forward to working with and getting to know all the teams and staff and I am very excited about getting started. Finally, I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone connected with our Club a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! AMBER ARMY!”
Carrick Rangers Chairman Peter Clarke also commented:
“These strategic appointments demonstrate the Club’s goal to further enhance the great work which is being carried out by our Academy. One of our main goals is to enhance our structures to ensure more of our Academy players stay with the Club and progress to playing for our first team. In yesterday’s win over Portadown, we had three of our Academy players in our first team squad with Dylan Smiley making his first team debut and these appointments will ensure more opportunities for our Academy players.”
Congratulations and best wishes go to you both, Clifford and Kel! #AmberArmy
