Following a gruelling pre-season schedule, it’s finally time to get down to business in what will be seen as an important game even on the opening day.
In the time since a 5-0 victory at Shamrock Park which brought the previous campaign to an end, Rangers have been working hard in the transfer window to strengthen the squad.
The additions of Cameron Stewart, Curtis Allen, Ross Glendinning, Andy Mitchell and Aodhan Gillen, as well as the return of Alex Gawne on loan, have done just that and will give supporters hope of improving on last year’s 10th placed finish.
Having reaped the benefits of putting points on the board early last season, Stuart King will be keen to kick-off by taking all three tomorrow afternoon.
Their opponents will be Championship winners Newry City, newly promoted to the top flight and undoubtedly eager to mark their return to the division in style.
Having kept hold of the vast majority of their squad, City have added young talent in the likes of Donal Rocks on loan from Cliftonville and Ebuka Kwelele formerly of Dundalk.
With the trickery of players such as Lorcan Forde, John McGovern and James Teelan in attack, Carrick must not underestimate the ability of the newcomers.
It will be the first meeting between the sides since 9th May 2018, when Darren Mullen’s men won a second leg promotion play-off to take Carrick’s place in the Premiership.
