It is a first quarter final appearance for CRFC since the 2020/21 Season when they lost out to Larne behind closed doors.
The league campaign has been one of contrast for both clubs, Carrick sitting in 11th position with Dungannon Swifts flying high in 3rd position currently. The sides last met in league action 2 weekends ago at Stangmore Park when Swifts ran out 3-1 winners thanks to first-half goals from Andrew Mitchell, Leo Alves and Adam Glenny before Paul Heatley grabbed what proved to be a consolation goal at the start of the second-half.
It has been over 26 years since the sides last met in the Irish Cup, that season at the Fifth Round stage. The sides drew 2-2 before the ‘Gers overcame the Swifts 4-3 in a replay. Graeme Arthur (x3) and Gary Murray with the goals.
The ’Gers cup journey so far has seen a home win over Newry City, before a 3-0 win at Ferney Park over Ballinamallard United. Opponents, Dungannon recorded a 5-0 win over Rathfriland before overcoming Coleraine after extra time in Round 6.
With four winners medals to his name already, ‘Gers manager Stephen Baxter will be hoping to guide CRFC to the semi-final stage for the first time since the 1994/95 season. That season Carrick would go on reach the Final before losing out to Linfield.
