That evening the ‘Gers were left to rue two second-half lapses of concentration after Nedas Maciulaitis put the home side ahead in the 24th minute. Sean Graham equalised for the Invermen after a floated ball in from the right hand was not dealt with on minute 66 before Tiernan O’Connor won it in the 83rd minute, after the ‘Gers failed to reset from a corner of their own, allowing a ball over the top to arrive at the unmarked O’Connor who was able to slot past Ross Glendinning.
Since that evening it has been mixed fortunes for the visitors, going 4 games without a win before recording a 4-1 victory at Loughgall last Wednesday evening. Their re-arranged league fixture at Ballymena United on Saturday was postponed after The Showgrounds failed a pitch inspection.
For the ‘Gers, it has been 11 games since their last league success, with 5 scoreless draws in that period, and on Saturday they also bowed out of the Irish Cup following a 3-1 defeat at home to Dungannon Swifts. Having taken an early lead through Danny Gibson’s lobbed shot, the home side put in a positive display in the first-half. Swifts then replied 10 minutes after the break and went on to secure their place in the final four thanks to a John McGovern brace.
Stephen Baxter is likely to be without the service of Ben Tilney, Reece Glendinning, Curtis Allen and Steven Gordon. However there are possible returns for Ross Glendinning, Cameron Stewart, Ethan Boyle and Paul Heatley to the matchday squad. On-loan Jack Hastings will be unavailable to face his parent club.
‘Gers fans will be hoping they can cut out the errors from a month ago. Your support, as always, would be greatly appreciated and below, you can find information for ticketing arrangements.
