Five months have passed since the sides last met in the league, Ross Glendinning the hero saving a last-minute penalty to earn ‘Gers a point at The Oval.
It was a Friday evening in August when Glentoran last visited Taylors Avenue, that night earning all 3 points in an exciting game in front of the BBC cameras. Danny Gibson opened the scoring from the spot after Paul Heatley was fouled before David Fisher and Frankie Hvid gave Glentoran the lead, either side of a second yellow card for Kurtis Forsythe meaning the ‘Gers would play just over 45 minutes with 10 men. Paul Heatley then levelled for Carrick, racing through on goal to slot past Daniel Gyollai before Fisher won it for the Glens 13 minutes from full-time.
Carrick come into Saturday’s clash having lost out on the road at Portadown last Saturday, whilst Glentoran were in action on Wednesday evening, drawing 3-3 with Glenavon at home after their BetMcLean Cup Final defeat on Sunday.
‘Gers boss Stephen Baxter could welcome Reece Glendinning who has returned to first team training following a period on the sideline. It is uncertain whether Luke McCullough and Paul Healey will make the matchday squad having picked up muscle injuries in recent weeks.
