To The Showgrounds

Carrick Rangers travel to the Ballymena Showgrounds on Saturday, taking on a Ballymena United side currently sitting in 9th in the table.

Both sides were involved in 5-goal games last weekend, Saturday’s hosts on the receiving end of a 5-0 defeat to Cliftonville, with Carrick recording their 7th league win of the season, defeating Portadown 4-1 at Taylors Avenue.

‘Gers boss Stephen Baxter will have taken a number of positives from that performance and result last weekend, with the return of Reece Glendinning and Curtis Allen to First Team action, along with a solid display from Jack O’Reilly, in his 2nd start for the Club, on the left-wing, and Danny Gibson twice finding the net, including from the penalty spot.

The last time these sides met at the Showgrounds was back in November. The ‘Gers finished with 10-men on that occasion, Ross Glendinning sent off for handling the ball outside his area, but Carrick dug deep to leave with all three points, the winning goal coming from Nedas Maciulaitis with a fine strike from distance in to the top left corner of the goal.

Looking ahead to Saturday, it remains a period of injury management for ‘Gers, with Luke McCullough, Seanan Clucas, Paul Heatley and Ethan Boyle all missing from last Saturday’s win. Boss Baxter will hope to be able to recall this experience to the ranks in the coming weeks, as the season reaches its climax.
