Firstly, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Thompson to the role of Assistant Manager.
Peter, aged 44, joins Stephen Baxter’s management team having worked under him previously at Crusaders. Prior to that, Peter was manager at Queens University for nearly 10 years, during that period the students maintained a consistent period of success, reaching an Irish Cup Semi Final in 2014 as well as gaining promotion to the NIFL Championship in 2019, then overcoming Linfield in the Irish Cup in the following season.
In addition, we can confirm the appointment of Mark Surgenor as First Team Coach. Surgenor temporarily stepped into the management hot-seat during the 2024/25 season, before seeing out the season as a member of the coaching staff, whilst still remaining a player. The move sees Surgenor switch focus to the coaching role, having notched up 294 appearances across his 10 seasons as a player for the ‘Gers, scoring 11 goals in that time.
After 6 seasons at CRFC, First Team Physio Brett Thompson has departed the Club. Everyone at Carrick Rangers thanks Brett for his efforts and commitment across the last 7 years and wishes him all the best for the future.
Taking on the role of First Team Physio is Cameron Shaw. Shaw, aged 24, joins the Club having worked at Portadown FC for the last 3 seasons, along with currently working with the IFA and West Ham Academy and for the NHS.
Also joining the medical team as Club Doctor is Andrew Cinnamond. The NHS doctor, who also works with Northern Ireland U15's, joins having spent time at Portadown FC and will provide invaluable support to Cameron and the Club.
We would like to welcome Peter, Cameron and Andrew to Carrick Rangers and congratulate Mark on his new role with CRFC.
