The 27-year-old US International joins the club on a short-term deal, currently a free agent, having most recently been at The New Saints (TNS) in Wales.
Born in Philadelphia, Olosunde started his career at New York Red Bulls before moving to Manchester United at the age of 16. During his time at Manchester United, Olosunde made his national team debut, coming on as a substitute against Bolivia on 28 May 2018.
After three seasons at United, he departed to Rotherham, making 66 appearances across a two-season stint, scoring three goals, including a goal against Everton in the FA Cup at Goodison Park.
In 2021, Olosunde joined Preston North End; however, groin and Achilles injuries limited him to two appearances across two years. Following that, Olosunde joined TNS in February 2024 until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Olosunde will wear the number 34 shirt for the ‘Gers and is eligible to play this weekend.
On joining Carrick Rangers, Matthew Olosunde commented:
“This is a really good opportunity for me to get playing football at a good level and at a club with good values behind it, so I’m excited to get started.
"I'm a full-back by trade and like to get up and down the wing, use my pace and carry the ball forward. I’m aiming to get back to consistently playing again and getting back to enjoying it, doing what I love.”
Manager Stephen Baxter added:
“I’m delighted to announce the signing of Matthew Olosunde to Carrick Rangers. Matthew is a player that we’ve been fortunate to have been connected to via our contacts in America, and having come in on trial and impressed us, we’re glad to get this deal over the line.
“He first came across from America at the age of 16 and has spent time at several Football League clubs, including initially at Manchester United, but in recent seasons has had limited game time so is very keen to get out there now and play.
“We’re looking forward to seeing Matthew settle in and establish himself at Carrick Rangers.”
Welcome to Carrick Rangers, Matthew!
