Destination Solitude

Carrick Rangers take on Cliftonville on Saturday, in a precursor to Tuesday's Shield Final.

The 'Gers arrive at Solitude on Saturday having picked up a point against champions Linfield on Tuesday night. In a game with few clear cut chances, the biggest moment came in the 85th minute, as Aidan Steele turned a cross goalwards, only for Chris Johns to get down superbly to his left to keep the ball out. Stephen Baxter was pleased to pick up a point and keep a clean sheet, however admitted the players were frustrated to not take all three points, having played for an hour against ten men.

For the Reds, they also picked up a point, at the Ballymena Showgrounds, twice coming back from behind. Teenager Keevan Hawthorne levelled in the 15th minute, before Ballymena debutant Igor Rutkowski grabbed his second on the night just after half-time. It was Joe Gormley who rescued a point for the North Belfast men, three minutes from time.

The sides have met twice already this season, both times at Taylors Avenue. It's been almost a year since the 'Gers last visit to Solitude, losing out 3-0 with goals from Shea Gordon, Ryan Curran and Alex Parsons.
